Social Listen — Check a Live Video or Photo

Check a video or photo that's already playing somewhere else — YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram — for AI-generation signs, without downloading it. You share the tab; nothing is fetched from the platform.

Desktop Chrome or Edge — needs browser tab-sharing

How it works

  1. 1Tap the platform pill (YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram) to match where the content is.
  2. 2Open that video or photo yourself in a separate browser tab — don't close this one.
  3. 3Come back here and pick a button: "Listen & Analyze" for video/audio, or "Capture This Photo" for a still image.
  4. 4Your browser opens a picker asking what to share — choose that other tab, not your whole screen.
  5. 5For video/audio, check the "Share tab audio" box in that picker before confirming, or there'll be nothing to analyze.
  6. 6Once shared, analysis starts automatically — for audio it listens live for a few seconds; for photos it captures the frame instantly.

Who this is for

Built for content you can't easily download — a livestream clip, a story that disappears, a video you only have a link to, not a file.

  • Anyone who wants to check a video/photo without downloading it first
  • Content on platforms whose own embed APIs are unreliable to depend on
  • People on desktop Chrome or Edge specifically — this relies on browser tab-sharing, which phone browsers don't support
  • A quick first-pass check, with the option to fall back to the upload-based Audio/Video tabs for a cleaner read

Frequently asked questions

How does Social Listen work without downloading anything?

You open the video or photo yourself in a separate browser tab, then share that tab (with your permission, via your browser's own picker) when prompted. Nothing is fetched from the platform's servers — this only looks at what's already on your screen.

Which platforms does it support?

YouTube, Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram.

Does this work on my phone?

No — it needs Chrome or Edge on desktop, since it relies on browser tab-sharing, which mobile browsers don't support.

Is the result as accurate as uploading a file directly?

A short, live-captured clip gives noisier signal than a full downloaded file, so treat the score here as a rougher read than the upload-based Audio/Video tabs.

Do I need to install anything?

No — it's built into the browser's own screen/tab-sharing picker. Nothing to install, nothing uploaded anywhere.

Is this free?

Yes, completely free, no account required.

Being straight about this: tab-audio capture needs Chrome or Edge on desktop — Safari and most mobile browsers don't support sharing tab audio this way, and will fail at the permission step. A short, live-captured clip also gives noisier signal than a full downloaded file, so treat the score here as a rougher read than the upload-based Audio tab.
